If you would like to cross the river from Buenos Aires to visit Colonia, an old city in Uruguay, our neighbour country, you can travel by Buquebus http://www.buquebus.com/
They offer trips of one hour (more expensive) or three hours to get to Colonia. The price is cheaper if you return the same day. Another option is the trip with a city tour and lunch included. Prices are the same for locals or foreigners.
