Safety on Buenos Aires City

Buenos Aires, like any other big city in the world, has crime and theft (particularly on foreigners who don’t speak Spanish), so try to avoid having an unpleasant moment by taking basic precautions. Don't be afraid, you can walk the streets of Buenos Aires at night without a problem, just be careful and ask someone at your hotel to give you suggestions on where not to go.
The key to safety on Buenos Aires or any city's streets is awareness. As a turist you should use just common sense, not flashing money, expensive watches or cameras (specially those), walking through bad areas of town alone late at night. Just take the same precautions you would take anywhere else. Always keep a hold of your purse, don't keep a wallet bulging out of your pocket, don't wear really expensive jewelry while walking down the street. Know that there are pickpockets in those places with a lot of people walking, such neighbourhoods Once, Boca, San Telmo, Recoleta. So I suggest you have a small purse with small change just in case you need to use your money in the street.
Have you bags and belongings in sight if traveling on a crowded subway or on crowded streets.
Do not leave your purse or bag hanging from chairs in public places. Do not put your bag or backpack at your feet or under the table in a restaurant or under a bench if you are in a park. Put it in your lap.
You will notice that there are many people begging for money on certain areas of the city. Try to ignore them and keep walking.
Always have an ID with you.
In case of an emergency dial 101 from the nearest public phone for assistance. Call is free.
